Just like with oud, vetiver is one of those aromatics that you think all smell alike when you first encounter them (aside from green vetiver, which stands out even to an untrained nose!)
But the more you smell different varieties of vetiver, two things happen:
You begin to appreciate how unique the varieties are.
You discover how addictive vetiver is!
If you already have a little collection of different kinds, this Paraguayan khus is among the sweetest of vetivers. If you’re after sweetness, I’d normally recommend Brazilian vetiver, but compared to this Paraguay extract, the Brasiliano smells drier, almost hay-ish in comparison to its sweet root aroma.
Haitian Khus is more flowery, creamier, and while its sweetness is more citrusy compared to this one’s more balsamic, earthy, tamarindish sweetness.
Depending on your mood, Paraguay Vetiver might well be easiest one to wear neat. While they’re all very accessible, its sweetness gives it a more perfumey quality that’s very pleasant as the wafts hit your nose throughout the day.
If you have any fruity oud and/or sandalwood, I highly recommend layering this with it! The sweet grass aroma atop fruity resin and the soothing buttery tone of good sandalwood creates a delectable aura around you.
